Support
Crashboard is made by one person. Email me and you will reach that person directly, not a ticket queue.
I read every message and aim to reply within two or three business days. There is no account to verify, so please mention your device and iOS version if something is not working.
Subscriptions, billing and refunds
The subscription is sold by Apple, so Apple — not I — handles billing, cancellation and refunds. I have no ability to see your purchase, cancel it for you, or issue a refund.
- The seven days of free access
Every part of the app is free for seven days from the moment you first open it. There is nothing to start and nothing to enter: no card, no sign-up, no tap. A line under the headline counts the days down while it runs, and names the last day as the last day.
It is not a trial of the subscription and does not become one. Nothing is charged, nothing renews, and no payment method is involved at any point. When the week ends the app returns to the free view — Conditions Ahead and the two Now-and-Ahead charts go back behind their unlock prompt, and nothing else changes.
The seven days are counted per device rather than per Apple Account, so an iPhone and an iPad each get their own week. That is deliberate: the data is public and already inside the app, so a second week costs nothing to give.
- Cancel or manage your subscription
On your device: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Crashboard. Or open apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid being charged for the next year.
- Request a refund
Refunds go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. If Apple declines and you think that is unfair, write to me anyway — I cannot reverse it, but I would like to know.
- You paid but Conditions Ahead is still locked
Open the subscription screen in the app and tap Restore purchases. That re-checks your Apple Account and is the right fix after reinstalling or moving to a new device. If a family organiser has to approve the purchase, it unlocks on its own once they do — you can close the window while you wait.
- What the subscription actually unlocks
The arithmetic behind Conditions Ahead: the indicator panel that produced the forward reading, and its history beside the present one.
Both readings are free and stay free — Conditions Now and Conditions Ahead alike, with the verdict at the top of the screen and the colour behind it, which are computed from the forward reading. So is everything present-tense: every indicator behind Conditions Now, the global stress panel, and the whole twenty-eight-year record of it, scrubbable back to 1998.
Using the app
- What do the colours mean?
The background is a rank, not a verdict. It shows where today's Conditions Ahead reading — the one named in the headline — sits against every day since 1998, deep red at the worst readings on record and deep green at the best. Conditions Now is reported separately and can disagree with it.
Green is not a recommendation and red is not a warning.
- What are Conditions Now and Conditions Ahead?
Two readings over the same indicators with different weights. Conditions Now is stress visible in the system today — credit spreads, bank failures, volatility, funding pressure. Conditions Ahead is what is building underneath — the yield curve, issuance appetite, positioning, what assets cost.
Which of the two an indicator feeds is decided by one question asked of all of them. Conditions Now is for what measures stress already being experienced or expressed; Conditions Ahead is for what measures an exposure, condition or expectation whose burden lands later. Market dysfunction today is Now; prices and terms that act on future activity are Ahead. Every indicator carries its answer, from a fixed list of six, and shows it when you tap its ? — so a placement can be checked rather than taken on trust.
- Why does a reading say "n of m" inputs?
Not every indicator reports every day; some series are weekly, monthly or quarterly, and the early years of the record are genuinely thinner. That count is how many contributed to the number you are looking at, stated rather than hidden.
- Does it work offline?
Yes. A complete snapshot ships inside the app, so it opens to a full dashboard on first launch with no network connection at all.
- I think a number is wrong
Please tell me, and say which indicator and which date. Every series is traceable to a named public source, so a mistake can be tracked down. The data itself may also be delayed, revised or incomplete at the source — that is noted in the disclaimer below, and it is a real limitation rather than a formality.
Privacy and accounts
- How do I reset my password?
There isn't one. Crashboard has no account, no sign-in and no profile — nothing to log into and nothing to reset.
- How do I delete my data?
There is none to delete. The app collects nothing about you and transmits nothing about you anywhere. Deleting the app removes the snapshot database it kept on your device. See the privacy policy for the full detail.
Where the data comes from
Forty-three indicators, folded from 64 data series, drawn from eight United States government sources: Federal Reserve Economic Data, US Treasury Fiscal Data, FDIC, CFTC, EIA, USGS, FEMA and the Office of Financial Research. All public domain. This product uses FHFA data but is neither endorsed nor certified by FHFA. No licensed market data is used or republished. The full attribution list is in the app's About screen and on the home page.
Important
Crashboard is provided for educational and entertainment purposes only. It is not financial, investment, tax or legal advice, and it is not a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any security or other asset.
Nothing here is personalised to your circumstances. The author is not a licensed financial adviser, broker or investment professional. Consult a qualified professional before making any financial decision.
The readings are one opinionated model built from public data. That data may be delayed, revised, incomplete or wrong, and the model may be wrong even when the data is right. The readings describe conditions as they are measured now and rank them against the record. Past readings are not indicative of future results, and no reading is a forecast.
